  1. I consider HARD TIMES a profound disappointment, especially because "Slump" and the first half of "Just Can't Win" show just how great the Laughing Hyenas could be, but the rest of the album /5(5).

  7. The Laughing Hyenas used to talk a lot about how the blues were a crucial influence on their music, but it was on their final album, 's Hard Times, that they started to really walk it like they talked the Stooges-meet-Bad Seeds sound of the band's earlier records was certainly a part of their approach here, the songwriting suggested the group was hearkening back to the same Muddy.
  8. This album saw one more line up change: Kevin Ries left and one time Necros Ron Sakowski stepped in, the Hyenas went down to Memphis to the legendary Easley Studios to record their final LP with the one and only Doug Easley. On Hard Times, we see the Hyenas influences are more Howlin' Wolf/Muddy Waters than they are Nick Cave/Iggy Pop.
